Young footballers donate 239 eggs for Easter Egg Appeal 2018

Dozens of youth football teams have come together for a fundraising event as part of an Easter charity appeal.

The event took place at Goals in Aberdeen on Sunday 11th March and saw 42 teams compete in matches over the course of the day.

The initiative aims to encourage children to donate one of their Easter eggs towards the Trinity Centre’s Easter Egg Appeal which will then be delivered to children’s charities, hospitals, hostels, creches and family centres.

More than 239 eggs were donated at the weekend’s event.

Organiser Kenny Bruce said: “We held a similar event last year that worked fantastically. With only 20 teams taking part last year we managed to raise just under 150 eggs.

“This year we were doing it on a larger scale and aimed to donate at least 200 Easter eggs.

“It’s a great day for the kids as well as teaching them valuable lessons about giving to those less fortunate.”

The Trinity Centre’s mascot Giddy the Gorilla was also at the event to help encourage children to get involved.

Linda Stewart, general manager of the Trinity Centre, said: “I would like to thank customers, retailers, local businesses and Trinity Centre contractors for their continuous support. We are so grateful that the community has been able to come together for such a worthy cause.

“We are now on the last couple of weeks of the appeal and currently at the halfway mark, we are asking customers and local businesses to help us with this final push to help put a smile on a child this Easter.”

To donate an Easter egg to the appeal, visit the centre’s drop off point – a large perspex egg. The centre is also able to accept cash donations via the money slot on the egg. The final date for donations to be made is Friday, March 30
